Job Overview

The Medical Liaison – Obesity & Liver Health is a field-based Medical Affairs role responsible for advancing scientific exchange and medical education related to Novo Nordisk’s portfolio across obesity, liver health, and metabolic disease areas. This position acts as a trusted scientific partner to healthcare professionals (HCPs), key opinion leaders (KOLs), and integrated healthcare networks (IHNs) within the South Central US territory.

Working within the Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) organization, the Medical Liaison supports evidence-based clinical discussions, facilitates medical education initiatives, and collaborates cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including Medical Affairs, Sales, Market Access, and Government Affairs. The role requires deep therapeutic expertise, strong scientific communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in a dynamic field environment.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Exchange & Medical Education

  • Build and maintain strong, compliant relationships with HCPs, KOLs, academic institutions, and healthcare systems.

  • Deliver high-quality scientific and clinical education on approved and pipeline products in obesity and liver health.

  • Organize and support medical education activities including advisory boards, roundtables, medical forums, and scientific workshops.

  • Present approved clinical data, HEOR insights, and scientific updates to external stakeholders and formulary decision-makers.

Field Medical Affairs Support

  • Act as a scientific liaison between the organization and external medical stakeholders to support evidence-based use of therapies.

  • Collaborate with Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) teams to communicate product value propositions.

  • Support clinical trial awareness by identifying potential study sites and facilitating collaboration with investigators.

  • Provide clinical insights and feedback from the field to internal teams to inform medical and scientific strategy.

Strategic Territory Management

  • Develop and execute territory-level medical plans aligned with organizational priorities and customer needs.

  • Use analytics and customer insights to prioritize engagements and adapt territory strategies as needed.

  • Coordinate with regional Field Medical Affairs colleagues to ensure comprehensive and integrated scientific coverage.

Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure full compliance with SOPs, legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.

  • Accurately document all interactions and activities in CRM systems (e.g., Veeva) and manage expenses per company policy.

  • Provide regular activity, budget, and performance reports to Field Medical leadership.


Reporting & Collaboration

  • Reports to: Field Director / Senior Field Director, Medical Affairs

  • Internal Collaboration: Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Government Affairs

  • External Engagement: KOLs, physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, diabetes educators, academic institutions, and healthcare networks


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Doctoral degree required (MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent in life sciences or healthcare)

Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical company, healthcare system, managed care, or related clinical environment

  • Strong therapeutic experience in obesity, diabetes, metabolic disease, or liver health preferred

  • Experience in Medical Affairs or field-based medical roles is highly desirable

  • Demonstrated exposure to formulary processes, clinical decision-making, or healthcare system engagement preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced scientific and clinical communication skills

  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement capabilities

  • Solid business acumen with the ability to align medical strategy to healthcare system needs

  • Ability to work independently in a field-based role while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Proficiency with CRM systems and standard business tools


Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 50–75% overnight travel within the assigned territory

  • Valid driver’s license required with an acceptable driving record
