AstraZeneca’s oncology pipeline targets four major disease areas: breast, ovarian, lung, and hematological cancers. With platforms such as immunotherapy, genetic drivers of cancer, DNA damage repair, and antibody-drug conjugates, AstraZeneca aims to bring next-generation cancer therapies to patients. The Medical Affairs Diagnostic Executive will leverage medical, diagnostic, and clinical test experience to support test adoption and ensure seamless access to required testing in the assigned territory.

Major Responsibilities:

Diagnostic Strategy & Execution:

  • Identify barriers to cancer biomarker testing through interactions with testing laboratories, diagnostics kit companies, and HCPs.

  • Execute tactical plans within the assigned territory to increase adoption of appropriate testing.

  • Monitor testing rates and failure rates within the territory.

Relationship Development & Management:

  • Identify and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including pathologists, molecular pathologists, diagnostic kit suppliers, HCPs, scientific experts, and thought leaders.

  • Develop robust testing facilities in strategic centers, offering protocol support and resolving bottlenecks in testing.

  • Drive demand generation through education, awareness, and advocacy to promote adoption of testing solutions.

Insights & Collaboration:

  • Provide insights to core medical teams to inform the development of India-specific plans and local strategy.

  • Work in collaboration with the Diagnostics team, core medical team, and brand teams to support execution of tactical plans.

  • Engage with oncology diagnostics managers and professional associations to strengthen relationships and advocacy efforts.

Compliance & Regulatory Adherence:

  • Adhere to AstraZeneca’s Code of Conduct, Policy Handbook, Standards, SOPs, and comply with all regulatory and compliance requirements for the role.

Internal Contacts:

  • Diagnostics team

  • Core medical team, including brand medical leads

  • Brand teams in coordination with the Diagnostic lead

External Engagement:

  • Healthcare professionals, including oncologists and pathologists

  • Diagnostic partners (labs)

  • National and regional professional associations and societies

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Life Sciences, Medical Biotechnology, or Pharmacy.

  • Experience in molecular diagnostic marketing and clinical test selling; oncology experience (lung cancer, women’s cancer, immunotherapy) preferred.

  • Expertise in discussing scientific content with multiple audiences.

  • Ability to travel (>50%, depending on geography).

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and with short timelines, demonstrating resourcefulness and tenacity in problem-solving.

  • Thorough knowledge of diagnostic test development and the regulatory environment, with oncology experience and familiarity with clinical trials.

  • Proven leadership in cross-functional project teams.

  • Strong execution focus.
