Principal Clinical Data Scientist – Clinical Data Manager | East Hanover, NJ

Job Summary:

Novartis is seeking an experienced Principal Clinical Data Scientist to lead and manage clinical data strategy and operations across global clinical programs. Based onsite in East Hanover, New Jersey, this role requires strong leadership in data management delivery, CDISC standardization, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure consistency, quality, and regulatory compliance across multiple trials.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Clinical Data Management (CDM) for assigned trials/programs and represent CDM in global clinical teams.

  • Define and implement program-level data management strategies aligned with therapeutic area goals.

  • Apply industry standards such as CDISC and ensure program-level consistency in data quality and documentation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality data deliverables.

  • Provide feedback and input on protocol development and amendments.

  • Track project timelines, deliverables, and risks, and escalate key study issues proactively.

  • Support protocol optimization for data collection feasibility and clinical outcomes.

  • Represent CDM in cross-functional decision-making processes.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Pharmacy, or related discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience in drug development, with 3+ years in Clinical Data Management.

  • Strong leadership and project management experience across global trials.

  • Proficient in CDISC standards and clinical trial methodology.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., GCP, FDA, EMA).

  • Experience working in Neuroscience or CRM therapeutic areas (preferred).

  • Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines in a matrixed environment.
