Senior Scientist I/II – In Vivo Pharmacology (Echocardiography) | Novartis – Cambridge, MA

Job Summary:

Novartis BioMedical Research is hiring a Senior Scientist I/II with a strong background in echocardiography and in vivo pharmacology to join the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is a critical lab-based role for scientists passionate about advancing drug discovery for heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiometabolic diseases through innovative, non-invasive imaging and preclinical models. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and analyze echocardiographic experiments in heart failure and arrhythmia animal models.

  • Apply multi-mode echocardiography including strain, Doppler, and systolic/diastolic assessments.

  • Develop and refine imaging protocols supporting pharmacodynamics (PD) and efficacy studies.

  • Handle and phenotype rodent disease models, and support translational drug discovery.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal project teams in a matrixed R&D environment.

  • Present experimental data in written reports and team meetings.

  • Contribute to research documentation and regulatory filing reports.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pharmacology, Physiology, or Life Sciences.

  • 3–5+ years of experience in rodent echocardiography in preclinical cardiovascular models.

  • Experience in animal handling, dosing, and phenotyping in models of heart failure, arrhythmia, or cardiorenal disease.

  • Familiarity with non-invasive imaging in translational research.

  • Strong statistical analysis skills and familiarity with biomedical research software.

  • Excellent written, oral, and data documentation skills.

  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration in a drug discovery environment.

    • Senior Scientist II: $93,800 – $174,000/year
