Senior Clinical Development Director | Cardio Therapeutic Area | Novartis – New Jersey, USA

Job Summary:

Novartis is seeking an experienced Senior Clinical Development Director (CDD) to lead the strategy, design, and execution of global clinical development programs in the Cardio Therapeutic Area. This leadership role requires a high-level understanding of end-to-end clinical research, late-phase trials, and regulatory strategy. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic clinical leadership across assigned clinical programs.

  • Develop and execute clinical development plans aligned with Integrated Development Plans (IDPs).

  • Lead the development of clinical components of protocols, dossiers, and publications.

  • Oversee medical and scientific review of clinical trial data.

  • Support global regulatory submissions (IND, NDA/BLA, MAA).

  • Collaborate with global functions, trial directors, and regional medical teams.

  • Ensure patient safety in collaboration with the Safety Management Team.

  • Guide and mentor clinical teams and contribute to franchise-level scientific training.

  • Serve as an expert interface with internal and external stakeholders, including decision boards and regulatory authorities.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences/healthcare (MD, PharmD, or PhD strongly preferred).

  • 10+ years of clinical research and global drug development experience (Phases I–IV).

  • 5+ years of clinical trial leadership experience in a pharmaceutical environment.

  • Experience in late-phase clinical development and regulatory interactions.

  • Strong scientific acumen and ability to interpret complex data and literature.

  • Experience in managing people or matrix teams (≥3 years).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Familiarity with cardiovascular therapeutic areas preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in global/matrixed clinical environments.
