Job Summary

Novartis is seeking a Principal Scientist I – Imaging Expert to join its Biomarker Development team at the Cambridge, MA site. In this key position, you'll serve as a scientific and technical lead in PET and SPECT imaging, driving translational imaging strategies and supporting preclinical to clinical drug development programs. This role offers unique cross-therapeutic exposure and collaborative engagement with research and clinical teams to design impactful imaging endpoints and accelerate innovation in healthcare.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert in PET and SPECT imaging across preclinical and clinical programs.

  • Develop and implement fit-for-purpose imaging strategies for clinical trials.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and imaging CROs to execute trial imaging components.

  • Ensure data quality and responsiveness during trial execution and interpretation.

  • Identify and apply novel imaging modalities and endpoints in clinical protocols.

  • Lead imaging readouts to evaluate eligibility, efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action.

  • Engage with external key opinion leaders (KOLs) to refine imaging strategies.

  • Drive radioligand development and molecular imaging from late preclinical through clinical transition.

  • Partner with translational science teams to design integrated biomarker strategies.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with experience in PET/SPECT imaging in academic, industry, or CRO settings.

  • Deep technical knowledge of PET/SPECT imaging for in-life (preclinical/clinical) applications.

  • Experience with Radioligand Therapy (RLT/RPT) and radiochemistry is a plus.

  • Familiarity with regulatory submissions, dosimetry, receptor occupancy, and FIH protocols.

  • Understanding of clinical trial design, endpoint statistics, and data flow.

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally in matrixed R&D environments.

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and accountable with a strong collaborative mindset.

  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
