Job Summary

Responsible for task-specific supervision of medical writing staff, coordinating resources and activities to ensure high-quality, clear, accurate medical writing deliverables that meet regulatory standards, customer needs, and internal requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Supervise medical writing staff and oversee their development through goal-setting, performance reviews, training needs evaluation, mentoring, and coaching.

  • Manage priorities, scheduling, and department resources to meet company objectives and operational goals.

  • Advise and recommend actions on salary administration, hiring, onboarding, terminations, professional development, performance appraisals, job descriptions, and employee counseling.

  • Support staff on administrative policies, technical challenges, priorities, and methods.

Medical Writing Oversight

  • Manage and oversee medical writing deliverables according to company or client SOPs.

  • Form and lead cross-functional writing teams, proactively addressing arising issues.

  • Review medical writing products for completeness, accuracy, and quality.

  • Review statistical analysis plans and tables/figures/listings.

Strategic Support & Operations

  • Assist medical writing leadership with planning, development, and implementation of document development strategies.

  • Support preparation and presentation of quarterly business updates and issue resolution.

  • Assist in budget and timeline preparation for medical writing activities.

  • Support revenue, invoicing, and forecasting tasks as needed.

  • Participate in planning, writing, and assembling medical writing deliverables.

  • Develop and maintain departmental SOPs and templates; serve as a resource for their implementation.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Track, maintain, and review department metrics.

  • Support business development via proposals, costing, bid defenses, and customer meetings.


Compensation

Salary Range: $95,000.00 – $175,700.00 (Base salary range varies based on qualifications, skills, and proficiency.)

Education & Experience

  • Relevant experience in medical writing and team management (specific degree requirements not listed but typically life sciences or related fields preferred).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of medical writing processes and regulatory standards.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate teams, and ensure high-quality deliverables.

  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and business development support.
