Job Overview

NEXT Oncology is seeking a licensed Investigational Drug Services (IDS) Pharmacy Technician to join our collaborative and supportive clinical research team at our Fairfax, Virginia site, specializing in Phase I Oncology trials. This onsite, full-time role offers a stable Monday–Friday schedule during daytime hours, ideal for pharmacy professionals seeking work-life balance while contributing to cutting-edge cancer research.

As an IDS Pharmacy Technician, you will apply your expertise in both hands-on compounding and administrative support, working with investigational and conventional medications in compliance with industry regulations, and supporting clinical trials that advance innovative cancer therapies.

Key Responsibilities

Protocol Compliance & Medication Management

  • Enter concomitant medications into the EMR and prepare investigational products according to study protocols.

  • Compound IV and oral investigational and conventional agents, including hazardous medications, adhering to USP <797> and <800> guidelines.

  • Manage inventory, accountability, and documentation of investigational products (IP) and conventional drugs using Vestigo and eDOCs.

Administrative & Regulatory Support

  • Assist with audits, study monitor visits, and SOP development; provide coverage for team members as needed.

  • Maintain accurate protocol documentation, staff credentials, and certification records through eDOCs and Vestigo systems.

  • Orient new staff and support ongoing training initiatives to ensure compliance with study and regulatory requirements.

Education & Professional Development

  • Maintain all required certifications and complete continuing education to stay current in oncology pharmacy practices and clinical trial standards.

  • Support the professional growth of team members through guidance and mentorship in compounding procedures, safety protocols, and clinical documentation practices.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Current Pharmacy Technician License in Virginia (required).

  • IV Certification with a minimum of 1 year of hands-on IV mixing experience (required).

  • Chemotherapy Certification with at least 6 months of compounding experience (required).

  • Strong knowledge of USP <797>, USP <800>, GCP, GMP, and oncology clinical research practices.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods.

  • Minimum 2 years of pharmacy or clinical trial experience preferred, particularly in oncology research or IDS settings.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annualized base pay range: $33,000 – $82,600, depending on experience, qualifications, and schedule.
