Position Overview

The Research Pharmacist (Oncology) plays a critical role in supporting investigational drug services and oncology-focused clinical research programs. Reporting to the Pharmacy Supervisor and Pharmacy Research Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and effective management of investigational medications while supporting high-quality patient care and clinical trial execution.

This position is ideal for pharmacists seeking a long-term, research-oriented career within an academic medical center.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all protocol-related pharmacy activities, including study initiation, investigational drug dispensing, monitoring, and study close-out

  • Ensure accurate and compliant medication dispensing to support oncology patients enrolled in clinical trials

  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and clinical research standards

  • Support pharmacy leadership in operational oversight and quality assurance activities

  • Supervise and guide pharmacy support staff as required

  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, physicians, research teams, nursing staff, and administrative stakeholders

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills in a dynamic healthcare environment

  • Promote a patient-centric approach grounded in safety, integrity, and innovation


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education & Licensure:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution

  • Active pharmacist license in the state of California (or eligibility to obtain)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy, oncology pharmacy, or clinical research pharmacy

  • Hands-on experience with investigational drugs and clinical trial pharmacy operations preferred

  • Familiarity with oncology therapeutics and research protocols is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards governing investigational drug services and clinical research compliance
