Inpatient Coding Auditor – Los Angeles, CA

Job Summary:
UCLA Health is hiring an Inpatient Coding Auditor with expertise in DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) payment reviews to support quality assurance in inpatient services. Based in Los Angeles, this role is critical to ensuring accurate inpatient coding and compliance with federal and state regulations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inpatient quality and DRG payment reviews to ensure coding accuracy and proper reimbursement.

  • Identify discrepancies in documentation, coding errors, and charge capture issues.

  • Provide education and constructive feedback to inpatient coding professionals.

  • Stay up to date with inpatient coding standards, billing regulations, and compliance changes.

  • Collaborate with the Coding Management Team to enhance inpatient coding policies and procedures.

  • Represent the Coding Department in interdepartmental meetings and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to coding policy development.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in inpatient medical coding and auditing.

  • Expertise in DRG coding and hospital reimbursement models.

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding systems and federal/state billing regulations.

  • Certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CIC preferred.

  • Excellent analytical, documentation review, and communication skills.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of inpatient coding or auditing experience in a hospital setting.
