Job Purpose

The Histopathologist (Associate Scientist) is responsible for supervising pathology laboratory activities, ensuring the quality and timely processing of histology samples, and managing pathology data in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and regulatory requirements. The role involves conducting necropsy procedures, overseeing histopathological slide preparation, managing laboratory specimens, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Compliance

  • Supervise pathology laboratory activities and assigned team members.
  • Ensure quality histopathology slides are delivered to pathologists within committed timelines.
  • Address audit responses promptly and ensure compliance with GLP and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure the timely archival of study specimens and raw data.
  • Participate in vendor and supplier qualification as well as instrument validation.

Pathology & Histology Operations

  • Perform euthanasia and necropsy of laboratory animals, ensuring proper organ collection, weighing, verification, and preservation.
  • Prepare and maintain fixatives, reagents, stains, and solutions used in the histopathology laboratory.
  • Oversee tissue trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning (microtomy), staining, mounting, and labeling of slides.
  • Manage and maintain the chemical stock register and consumables inventory for laboratory operations.
  • Archive pathology specimens, including tissue bottles, paraffin blocks, histopathology slides, and bone marrow slides.

Regulatory & Documentation

  • Prepare and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Participate in health monitoring procedures, laboratory animal husbandry practices, and necropsy preparation.

Educational Qualification

  • M.Sc. in Zoology or a related field.

Technical & Functional Skills

  • Experience in supervising pathology activities and managing laboratory teams.
  • Proficiency in necropsy procedures for laboratory animals.
  • Expertise in histopathology techniques, including tissue processing, microtomy, and staining.
  • Strong knowledge of GLP regulations and compliance documentation.
  • Familiarity with chemical handling, reagent preparation, and laboratory stock management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a regulated laboratory environment.
