Healthcare Collector – Self-Pay (Remote) | Cognizant
Job Summary
Cognizant is hiring a Healthcare Collector – Self-Pay to join its remote collections team, providing outstanding customer service while collecting patient self-pay balances. This role is ideal for candidates with 1–2 years of experience in healthcare collections, especially with EHR software like Epic, and a passion for resolving billing issues in a compliant and empathetic manner. Work from home and support leading healthcare clients in managing their revenue cycles more efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Handle inbound calls and assist patients in resolving outstanding balances
Arrange repayment plans in accordance with financial guidelines and client policy
Record updates, payments, and insurance information accurately
Adhere to HIPAA and TCPA regulations on every call
Request and verify patient statements as needed
Address and escalate patient disputes appropriately
Perform outbound collections calls when necessary
Support team activities and additional tasks as assigned
Required Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred
1–2 years of experience in healthcare collections or self-pay account handling
Hands-on experience with EHR systems, especially Epic
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of HIPAA, patient privacy, and billing protocols
Customer service-oriented with attention to detail
Familiarity with medical billing, copays, and revenue cycle concepts
Ability to work independently in a remote setting and troubleshoot basic tech issues
