Job Overview

A leading global pharmaceutical organization, Novartis, is seeking a Head Technology Platform, CDO to lead the end-to-end technology strategy and platform architecture supporting clinical data operations. This senior leadership role is responsible for defining, executing, and optimizing the clinical data technology ecosystem that enables efficient, compliant, and data-driven clinical trial execution.

The role sits within the Clinical Development Organization (CDO) and focuses on aligning technology platforms with global clinical development strategy, ensuring seamless integration of data systems, and driving innovation in clinical trial technology.


Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Platform Leadership

  • Define and execute the end-to-end technology strategy for clinical data platforms within the CDO domain

  • Develop multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with clinical development and business priorities

  • Oversee architecture and integration of clinical data systems, including clinical operations and data platforms

  • Ensure alignment between technology strategy and global clinical development objectives

Platform Ownership & Execution

  • Own centralized clinical technology platforms and ensure scalability, compliance, and performance

  • Coordinate centralized and federated technology sub-roadmaps across clinical systems

  • Ensure successful execution of technology initiatives within defined timelines, scope, and budget

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with clinical operations, data management, safety, and statistical programming teams

  • Translate business and clinical needs into scalable technology solutions

  • Influence senior stakeholders without direct authority

Innovation & Industry Alignment

  • Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends in clinical data and healthcare IT

  • Identify opportunities for digital transformation in clinical trial operations

  • Integrate best practices and advanced analytics into clinical technology platforms

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance across all clinical technology systems

  • Maintain adherence to global standards for clinical data integrity and security

  • Support inspection readiness for regulatory authorities


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in clinical data systems, clinical programming, or healthcare technology

  • Deep understanding of drug development lifecycle, including clinical trials and safety processes

  • Proven experience in designing and executing enterprise-level technology roadmaps

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities

  • Experience leading large cross-functional teams and global initiatives

  • Knowledge of clinical systems such as EDC, clinical data platforms, and analytics tools

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills

  • Experience with design thinking and digital transformation (preferred)


Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline is required

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or MBA) in a relevant field is preferred


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in clinical data management, clinical programming, healthcare technology, or pharmaceutical R&D systems

  • Prior experience in clinical trial operations or data platform leadership is required

  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale technology or digital transformation initiatives

  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders and cross-functional global teams is essential
