Role Overview

The Group Lead in Discovery Chemistry will lead and manage the Fee-for-Service (FFS) business unit within the organization. This individual will be responsible for overseeing proposals, quotes, and ensuring the alignment of FFS business operations with both client needs and Syngene's organizational goals. Reporting to the Head of the FFS Division, the Group Lead will also work on process optimization, cost estimation, and continuous improvement of the proposal process.


Key Responsibilities

Proposal & Quote Management:

  • Lead the preparation of quotes and proposals, ensuring alignment with client needs and Syngene's business objectives.
  • Develop and implement standardized templates and procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Tailor quotes and proposals to address client-specific needs while showcasing Syngene’s unique value proposition.
  • Ensure pricing is competitive while maintaining profitability and quality standards.

Cost Estimation & Financial Management:

  • Partner with finance and procurement teams to estimate accurate costs for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Develop scalable pricing models for both small and large-scale projects.
  • Leverage historical data and market insights to refine pricing strategies and enhance win rates.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure that proposals and quotes meet industry regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Include clear project milestones, deliverables, timelines, and payment terms in all proposals.
  • Perform risk assessments to identify potential project risks and incorporate mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to ensure that confidentiality, intellectual property, and liability clauses are included in proposals.

Continuous Improvement & Data-Driven Decisions:

  • Regularly review and improve the proposal process based on feedback and industry benchmarks.
  • Track and report on proposal acceptance rates, turnaround times, and the revenue generated from FFS proposals.
  • Monitor and manage performance metrics, ensuring timely proposal delivery and high client satisfaction.
  • Conduct post-project reviews to refine the proposal process and adjust strategies as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:

    • Ph.D. in Chemistry with a focus on synthetic chemistry, process R&D, or related fields.
  • Experience:

    • 12-15 years of experience in the CRO industry, with a strong track record in FFS business, synthetic chemistry FTEs, and process R&D.
    • Experience in managing proposal processes and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as finance, procurement, and legal.

    • Expertise in synthetic chemistry, process R&D, and fee-for-service business operations.
    • Ability to develop pricing models and cost estimates for various project scales.
    • Familiarity with regulatory and quality standards in the CRO industry.
