Role Overview

The Field Application Scientist II plays a critical customer-facing role, providing expert technical support and scientific guidance for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s advanced molecular biology and analytical platforms. This position involves close collaboration with sales teams and cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact pre-sales and post-sales support, including product demonstrations, method optimization, troubleshooting, and customer training. The role is ideal for a scientifically driven professional with strong laboratory experience who thrives in a dynamic, field-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, assessing application needs and delivering tailored scientific solutions.

  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales field application support, including product demonstrations, on-site training, and technical consultations.

  • Support and optimize customer workflows across the following application areas:

    • Real-Time PCR using Thermo Fisher Scientific platforms

    • Real-Time PCR consumables, with strong expertise in TaqMan assays

    • Capillary Electrophoresis (CE), including platform knowledge and CE data analysis

    • Sample preparation workflows, including KingFisher extraction systems and consumables

  • Provide technical troubleshooting and method optimization to ensure successful customer outcomes.

  • Collaborate closely with sales, service, and product teams to support customer acquisition, retention, and satisfaction.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned product portfolios, applications, and emerging technologies.

  • Support customer compliance with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

  • Document customer interactions and provide feedback to internal teams to support continuous product and process improvement.

  • Travel extensively to customer sites, training events, and regional meetings as required.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • PhD or Master of Science (M.Sc.) with 2–3 years of hands-on laboratory experience using relevant molecular biology or analytical instrumentation.

  • Preferred academic background in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Microbiology.

  • Strong practical experience with Real-Time PCR platforms and consumables, including TaqMan assays.

  • Working knowledge or hands-on experience with Capillary Electrophoresis systems and CE data analysis.

  • Experience with sample preparation technologies, particularly KingFisher extraction systems, is highly desirable.

  • Experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or Microarray technologies is considered a strong advantage.

  • Proven experience delivering field application support, customer training, and technical troubleshooting.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and customer-focused approach.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant scientific software tools.

  • Fluency in English required; additional language skills are an advantage.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel 50–75% of the time.
