Role Summary:

The Expert – Science and Technology is responsible for designing, planning, executing, and interpreting scientific experiments to support the development and timely delivery of drug substances (DS), drug products (DP), processes, and procedures. The role may also involve leading a small team within a manufacturing plant environment, contributing to operational excellence, and aligning with strategic plans across Novartis divisions.


Key Responsibilities:

🔬 Scientific Experimentation & Development

  • Design and execute scientific experiments for DS/DP preparation under minimal supervision.

  • Interpret and document results and contribute to planning the next set of experiments.

  • Optimize and improve lab or plant methods, procedures, and workflows.

🏭 Technical Operations & Infrastructure

  • Manage lab or pilot plant activities, including evaluating and qualifying equipment.

  • Generate lab procedures, instructions, and SOPs.

  • Support the transfer of procedures to pilot plants or manufacturing.

🧠 Knowledge & Collaboration

  • Maintain raw data, perform safety and literature searches, and manage chemicals and solvents.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally for DS/DP delivery and problem-solving.

  • Provide expert knowledge in specialized environments like containment or sterile labs.

⚙️ Compliance, Quality & Safety

  • Ensure activities comply with GxP, SOPs, safety (HSE), and information security (ISEC) standards.

  • Keep training records up to date.

  • Adhere to internal quality metrics and timelines.

👥 Teamwork & Leadership (If on Management Track)

  • Lead or mentor a team involved in pharmaceutical or biological therapy development.

  • Support resource planning and contribute to cross-functional strategies and goals.

  • Foster a strong compliance and continuous improvement mindset.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Successful and timely execution of assigned tasks.

  • Adherence to SOPs, safety, quality, and ethical standards.

  • Contributions to improving process efficiency and productivity.

  • Positive feedback from team members and leadership.

  • No overdue training or compliance gaps.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: B. Pharm / M. Pharm

  • Experience: 3–8 years of relevant industry experience

  • Skills & Knowledge:

    • Experience in handling chemicals and lab equipment safely

    • Familiarity with GMP regulations and SOPs

    • Proficient in lab techniques and software tools

    • Scientific writing and presentation skills

    • Strong communication and collaboration abilities


Desirable Experience:

  • Interdisciplinary or cross-cultural team work

  • Working in a small-scale manufacturing plant environment
