Job Overview

The Creative & Graphics Design Team Lead will provide strategic, creative, and operational leadership to a global medical communications design function. This role is responsible for driving high-quality, scientifically accurate, and visually impactful medical communication assets across multiple therapeutic areas, including Internal Medicine, Specialty Care, Vaccines, and Oncology. The position partners closely with medical writers, scientific experts, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex scientific information into effective visual narratives while ensuring compliance, innovation, and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and mentor the Creative & Graphics Design Team across therapeutic areas, providing strategic direction and fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and innovative work culture.

  • Optimize team operating models and workflows while managing internal and external stakeholder expectations.

  • Oversee team capacity planning, resource allocation, project assignments, and delivery timelines to ensure efficiency and quality.

  • Drive talent acquisition, onboarding, training, and retention strategies, including onboarding and training on organization-specific deliverables, design standards, tools, and technologies.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Medical Communications leadership, Business Operations teams, and category leadership groups.

Strategic Medical Communication Development

  • Lead the design and delivery of high-quality medical communication assets, including scientific posters, slide decks, infographics, publications, videos, digital assets, and presentations.

  • Collaborate with medical writers, scientific experts, and cross-functional teams to convert complex medical and scientific data into clear, engaging, and compliant visual content.

  • Align creative strategies with therapeutic area objectives and global medical communication goals.

  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to internal SOPs, brand guidelines, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

Project and Operational Management

  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and quality consistency.

  • Develop and monitor project plans, timelines, resource utilization, and performance metrics.

  • Identify risks, resolve issues proactively, and implement solutions to support evolving medical communication needs.

  • Optimize design processes and workflows to improve turnaround time, efficiency, and overall quality.

  • Track and report key performance indicators related to productivity, timelines, and operational effectiveness.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in medical communications, creative design, and digital innovation.

  • Drive the adoption of advanced tools, including AI-enabled design technologies, to enhance creativity, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Introduce innovative design approaches that strengthen the visual impact and effectiveness of medical communication materials.

  • Promote best practices, continuous learning, and technology adoption within the team.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, Communication Design, or a related field.

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in graphic design, with significant exposure to medical communications, healthcare, or pharmaceutical environments.

  • At least 5 years of proven people management experience, leading creative or design teams in fast-paced, global settings.

  • Advanced proficiency in design and digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Figma, and related platforms.

  • Experience with multimedia production, web technologies, and emerging tools, including AI-driven creative solutions and immersive technologies.

  • Strong understanding of medical and scientific terminology with the ability to visually communicate complex scientific concepts.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders, lead cross-functional initiatives, and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in global, cross-cultural environments with diverse stakeholder groups and senior leadership.

  • Strong background in omnichannel and multimedia medical content development.

  • Experience in offshore agency models or Global Capability Centers (GCCs) within pharma or healthcare organizations.

  • Proven success in team building, recruitment, talent development, and performance management.

  • Excellent project management, analytical, and reporting skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly adopt and scale new technologies, tools, and content strategies.
