Job Description:
The Clinical Trial Assistant (CTA) supports the successful execution of clinical trials by managing essential documents, performing pharmacy technician duties, and maintaining communication with trial sites, coordinators, and patients. The CTA ensures compliance with regulatory standards, monitors study activities, and assists in maintaining accurate records for trials testing new medications and medical devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor clinical study activities to ensure compliance with protocols and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain study records including case report forms, drug dispensation records, and regulatory documents.
  • Order drugs or medical devices necessary for clinical trials.
  • Stay current with clinical trial developments by reviewing scientific literature and attending educational conferences.
  • Prepare for and participate in quality assurance audits conducted by sponsors or regulatory bodies.
  • Organize space for study equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in developing study protocols and procedures.
  • Coordinate site visits and address any questions or issues with sponsors.
  • Identify protocol issues, inform investigators, and assist with problem resolution, including protocol revisions.
  • Dispense medications or medical devices, calculate dosages, and provide instructions as needed.
  • Ensure timely fulfillment and delivery of prescriptions and supplies to patients.
  • Manage inventory of medications and supplies, ensuring accurate stock levels.
  • Provide a positive patient and client experience throughout the clinical trial process.

Expectations of the Job:

  • Organize and archive clinical trial documents, including study protocols, SOPs, and training materials.
  • Administer clinical trials in accordance with good clinical practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide logistical support by entering subject and site orders and coordinating the delivery of study materials.
  • Handle and inspect medications and supplies to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Restock medications and supplies upon receipt, ensuring proper organization and rotation by expiration dates.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Some travel may be required (40 hours per week, 5 days a week).

Qualifications:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate’s degree in health sciences, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in healthcare or life sciences; clinical trial experience is preferred.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage routine administrative tasks.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Current State of Missouri Pharmacy Technician Registration required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Environment:

  • Warehouse: Requires walking or standing for up to 80% of the shift, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing tasks in a busy environment, including bending, squatting, and stooping.
  • Office: Requires standing or sitting for extended periods, occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), and handling frequent interruptions and multiple demands in a moderately quiet environment.
