Role Overview

The Disease Area Specialist (DAS) is a strategic Medical Affairs role responsible for developing and executing the Cardiovascular (CV) medical strategy in alignment with global and regional objectives.

Unlike an MSL role, which is primarily field-focused, the DAS role is more strategic and headquarters-based, focusing on:

  • Medical strategy development

  • Medico-marketing initiatives

  • Scientific leadership

  • Clinical trial oversight

  • Medical education programs

  • Internal stakeholder training

  • Cross-functional collaboration

The DAS acts as a therapeutic area expert and serves as a key link between Medical Affairs, Marketing, Clinical Development, and Commercial teams.


Key Responsibilities

1. Medical Strategy Development

  • Align country medical activities with global strategies

  • Develop and implement cardiovascular medical plans

  • Support therapeutic area strategy execution

  • Drive scientific priorities in India


2. Medical Education Programs

  • Design and implement high-quality educational initiatives

  • Develop scientific content

  • Support disease awareness programs

  • Enhance medical knowledge among stakeholders


3. Clinical Trial Support

  • Collaborate with Regional Clinical Operations (RCO)

  • Ensure clinical trials meet timelines, quality standards, and budget expectations

  • Support investigator engagement activities

  • Provide scientific input into study execution


4. Scientific Leadership

  • Serve as Cardiovascular therapeutic area expert

  • Mentor junior medical team members

  • Support onboarding and scientific training

  • Guide MSLs and FMSMs


5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with:

  • Marketing

  • Commercial Teams

  • MSL Teams

  • Clinical Operations

  • Regulatory Affairs

  • Pharmacovigilance

  • Global Medical Affairs Teams


6. Medical Training & Capability Building

  • Train:

    • MSLs

    • FMSMs

    • Sales Teams

    • Marketing Teams

  • Deliver scientific updates

  • Ensure continuous capability development


7. Regional & Global Collaboration

  • Work with Intercontinental (Intercon) Medical Teams

  • Participate in regional projects

  • Represent India within global medical discussions

  • Align local activities with international objectives


8. Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • BMS policies

    • Regulatory requirements

    • Ethical standards

  • Promote a culture of integrity and accountability
