Position Overview

BMS is seeking an experienced Disease Area Specialist (DAS) – Cardiovascular (CV) to support the medical strategy, scientific engagement, and therapy area leadership for the Cardiovascular portfolio in India.

The Disease Area Specialist serves as a critical medical affairs partner responsible for translating global medical strategies into local execution plans. Working closely with the Country Medical Director, Medical Affairs, Marketing, MSLs, and cross-functional teams, the DAS will drive scientific initiatives, medical education programs, clinical trial support, and stakeholder engagement activities within the cardiovascular therapy area.

This is a head-office-based medical affairs role with approximately 20–30% field engagement.

The Disease Area Specialist embodies BMS's medical mission by becoming a trusted scientific partner who:

Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy Development & Execution

In partnership with the Country Medical Director, the Disease Area Specialist will:

  • Support development and execution of local cardiovascular medical strategies.

  • Ensure alignment between country medical plans and global medical objectives.

  • Translate worldwide cardiovascular medical strategies into local implementation plans.

  • Drive execution of therapy-area-specific medical initiatives.


Scientific Leadership

  • Serve as a cardiovascular therapy area subject matter expert.

  • Provide scientific leadership across medical affairs activities.

  • Support evidence generation and scientific exchange initiatives.

  • Deliver expert medical and scientific guidance to internal stakeholders.


Medical Education & Scientific Programs

  • Plan and execute high-quality medical education activities.

  • Organize scientific meetings and educational programs.

  • Support dissemination of emerging clinical evidence and scientific updates.

  • Enhance awareness of cardiovascular disease management and treatment advancements.


Clinical Trial Support

  • Collaborate with Regional Clinical Operations (RCO) teams.

  • Support clinical trial planning and execution within India.

  • Ensure studies are delivered according to:

    • Timelines

    • Quality Standards

    • Budget Requirements

  • Facilitate investigator engagement and scientific collaboration.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with:

  • Country Medical Director

  • Medical Affairs Teams

  • Marketing Teams

  • Field Medical Scientific Managers (FMSMs)

  • Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs)

  • Clinical Operations Teams

  • Global and Regional Medical Teams

to ensure coordinated execution of medical plans.


Medical Capability Building

  • Strengthen scientific knowledge across:

    • MSL Teams

    • FMSM Teams

    • Sales Teams

    • Marketing Teams

  • Deliver scientific training programs and educational sessions.

  • Mentor new team members and support onboarding activities.


Regional & Global Collaboration

  • Collaborate with international and regional medical teams.

  • Participate in Intercontinental (Intercon) initiatives and strategic discussions.

  • Represent India in regional medical forums when required.

  • Share local insights to support global strategy development.


Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to:

    • BMS Policies

    • Medical Affairs Standards

    • Ethical Guidelines

    • Regulatory Requirements

  • Promote a culture of scientific integrity and compliance.

  • Act as a role model for ethical medical practice.

Required Qualifications

Education

Mandatory

  • MD (Doctor of Medicine) or equivalent Medical Qualification

Preferred

  • Cardiovascular (CV) specialization, certification, or advanced training

  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Cardiology or related disciplines


Required Experience

Industry Experience

  • Minimum 4–5 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience.
