Role Summary

The Director, Project Management – Lab Vendors provides strategic and operational leadership across multiple divisions for managing third-party laboratory vendor relationships. This individual is responsible for overseeing project delivery, resource planning, business process improvements, and aligning vendor strategies with overall business objectives. The role also includes client-facing responsibilities and internal collaboration with senior leadership.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and manage staff including hiring, training, performance reviews, and development

  • Approve salary decisions, expense reports, leave requests, and handle employee lifecycle responsibilities

Project Oversight & Vendor Management

  • Oversee timely execution of deliverables related to third-party lab vendors

  • Escalate risks to senior leadership, ensure budget control, and manage out-of-scope activities

  • Maintain vendor accountability and service quality across multi-site or multi-study engagements

Strategic & Financial Management

  • Manage annual budgeting and long-term forecasting for lab vendor programs

  • Identify and implement strategic initiatives to drive efficiency, standardization, and scalability

Client & Business Development

  • Serve as liaison to sponsor clients, address concerns, and ensure client satisfaction

  • Support business development by contributing to proposals, client presentations, and professional conferences


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (advanced degree preferred)

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in clinical research, project management, or vendor management

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership/management experience

  • Strong background in lab vendor oversight, preferably within central labs or CRO environments


Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing third-party lab vendors in a clinical research or CRO setting

  • Strong understanding of central lab operations and client-facing project execution

  • Business acumen in budgeting, contracts, and client growth strategies


Workplace & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily remote/office-based with computer-focused tasks

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and move moderately for long periods

  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. (e.g., laptop, small equipment)

  • Ability to interact professionally via digital and voice communication platforms
