Role Overview

The Director, Medical Affairs will provide strategic medical leadership for Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, supporting product development, clinical research, product safety, regulatory alignment and cross-functional business activities. This role is central to ensuring the safe and effective use of heart failure devices across hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support. The Director will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer and act as a key medical representative for internal and external stakeholders.

This position is remote within the United States and requires up to 70 percent travel.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Leadership and Guidance

  • Develop medical opinions, platform documents and Health Hazard Assessments.

  • Provide medical input for promotional and commercial initiatives.

  • Serve as the medical representative on Risk Evaluation teams.

  • Offer medical expertise to investigation teams as required.

  • Update medical affairs procedural documents and initiate change requests.

  • Provide medical support for MDR reporting when needed.

Quality, Regulatory and Clinical Support

  • Contribute to quality and regulatory customer communications, technical bulletins and quality directives.

  • Offer medical perspectives for new product development and product lifecycle decisions.

  • Support clinical research activities, including interpretation and presentation of clinical data.

  • Provide medical content to professional education programs.

Stakeholder and Customer Engagement

  • Engage in direct interactions with customers requiring medical expertise.

  • Manage regional oversight for Investigator-Initiated Studies and Research Grant programs.

  • Support off-label discussion documentation in alignment with compliance standards.

  • Assist the Chief Medical Officer with KOL interactions and professional society engagement.


Required Qualifications

Education and Credentials

  • MD strongly preferred; PhD in a relevant scientific discipline will be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, including experience in cardiovascular medicine.

  • Experience in clinical research, including interpretation and presentation of clinical evidence.

  • Strong communication and presentation capabilities are essential.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 70 percent in support of business and clinical activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.


Compensation

Base salary range: $168,000 – $336,000.
Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location and experience.
