Position Overview:
Gilead is seeking a Senior Director, Medical Excellence Strategic Programs to join the Global Medical Strategy & Operations (GMSO) organization. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving capability development, process optimization, and strategic alignment across Gilead’s Medical Affairs teams globally. The position focuses on enhancing how Medical Affairs operates, collaborates, and demonstrates measurable impact, enabling scientific and operational excellence worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Excellence Leadership

  • Partner with Medical Excellence leadership to define and execute the global strategy.

  • Lead initiatives to elevate consistency, quality, and impact of medical engagement planning and execution.

  • Drive continuous improvement of Medical Affairs processes, tools, and operating models.

  • Collaborate with Digital, Analytics, Scientific Communications, Content Strategy, and Medical Affairs Technology teams to integrate capabilities globally.

  • Support regional teams to ensure consistent deployment of global medical programs.

Worldwide Engagement Strategy Enablement

  • Develop frameworks, tools, and support to translate global medical strategy into actionable, measurable engagement plans.

  • Define standard methodologies, templates, and tools for planning, executing, and measuring omnichannel engagement (Field Medical, Medical Information, Digital).

  • Partner with channel leads to optimize channel selection, integration, and sequencing.

  • Support country and regional teams in operationalizing omnichannel strategies aligned with scientific and compliance standards.

Process & Capability Development

  • Identify and enhance cross-functional processes to improve agility, effectiveness, and alignment.

  • Lead projects to simplify workflows, clarify decision ownership, and reduce duplication across global, regional, and local teams.

  • Collaborate with Learning & Development to design training, toolkits, and playbooks embedding best practices.

  • Implement continuous improvement through feedback, metrics, and lessons learned.

Collaboration & Change Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to global and regional leadership teams to foster adoption of best practices.

  • Lead global working groups and communities of practice to drive peer learning and consistency.

  • Act as a change leader, embedding a culture of excellence across Medical Affairs.

Measurement & Impact

  • Define and monitor key success metrics for Medical Excellence initiatives.

  • Collaborate with analytics teams to develop dashboards and scorecards for data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure process improvements translate into measurable enhancements in engagement quality, compliance, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience with an advanced degree (MS, MBA, PharmD, PhD) or 14+ years with a bachelor’s degree.

  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, preferably with global or regional leadership responsibility.

  • Proven success in Medical Excellence, process optimization, capability building, or strategic operations.

  • Experience supporting engagement strategy or omnichannel medical planning strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed, global organization.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $281,010 – $363,660

  • Eligible for discretionary annual bonus, stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
