Job Overview

Syneos Health Communications is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Scientific Communications to join its global medical communications team in India. This is a senior leadership role within Cadent, the medical communications agency arm of Syneos Health Communications.

The successful candidate will lead and manage a high-performing team of 3–5 medical writers, while delivering strategic, high-quality scientific content across global medical communications programs. This role requires strong people leadership, advanced scientific expertise, and the ability to partner effectively within a highly matrixed, global organization.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific & Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and delivery of high-quality medical communications across global programs, including:

    • Peer-to-peer scientific programs

    • Advisory boards

    • Scientific platforms

    • MSL materials (proactive and reactive)

    • Digital medical communications and publications

  • Support both promotional and non-promotional medical communication activities

  • Ensure high scientific accuracy and editorial excellence through first-pass content reviews and quality control processes

  • Interpret, analyze, and distill complex scientific data into clear, strategic medical narratives

  • Provide strategic direction aligned with client objectives, brand strategy, and commercial goals

  • Develop and maintain therapy area expertise, with flexibility to support evolving portfolios

  • Manage multiple accounts while ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and budgets


People & Talent Management

  • Line manage and mentor a team of 3–5 medical writers across varying levels of seniority

  • Oversee capacity planning and resource allocation to optimize productivity and quality

  • Support training, coaching, and professional development initiatives for the India medical writing team

  • Identify skill gaps and create development plans for direct reports

  • Conduct performance reviews and provide structured feedback

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-engagement team culture

  • Partner with global hiring managers on recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning


Collaboration & Client Engagement

  • Act as a senior point of contact for internal and external stakeholders

  • Collaborate closely with account management, production, studio, and strategy teams

  • Build and strengthen long-term client relationships

  • Identify opportunities for account growth and new business development

  • Contribute to business pipeline development and strategic proposals

  • Serve as a role model and ambassador for professionalism, leadership, and company values


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:

    • Advanced degree in a biomedical or life sciences discipline

    • PhD preferred

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in medical writing, scientific communications, or medical affairs

    • Prior direct line management experience required

    • Experience in publication planning, medical education, medical affairs, and high-science communications

  • Therapeutic Expertise:

    • Broad therapeutic experience required

    • Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, or Aesthetics experience preferred

  • Core Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management

    • Proven strategic thinking and scientific storytelling ability

    • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

    • Comfortable working in a highly matrixed, global organization

    • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills

  • Technical Skills:

    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
