The Opportunity – Abbott Heart Failure (HF)

Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) division develops devices that support patients living with heart failure — particularly in hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support.

The Director of Medical Affairs will join a specialized team focused on the safe and effective use of these devices.
This role reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).


Role Overview

The Director of Medical Affairs provides operational, medical, and strategic support for product development, clinical research, product quality, compliance, commercial/marketing initiatives, and customer engagement.
Additionally, the Director assists the Chief Medical Officer in representing Abbott HF to regulatory authorities and professional societies.


Key Responsibilities

Medical & Regulatory Support

  • Develop medical opinions, platform documents, and Health Hazard Assessments.

  • Provide medical input for promotional and commercial activities.

  • Serve as medical representative on Risk Evaluation Teams.

  • Support investigation teams with medical insights.

  • Maintain and update medical affairs procedural documents.

  • Provide medical support for MDR (Medical Device Reporting) activities.

  • Draft and review quality/regulatory communications, technical bulletins, and directives.

Customer & External Engagement

  • Interact directly with customers on medical and product-related topics.

  • Manage Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS) and Research Grant Programs regionally.

  • Develop or contribute to professional education materials and events.

  • Conduct and document off-label discussions as required.

  • Support the CMO in KOL (Key Opinion Leader) and professional society engagement.

Product Development

  • Provide medical expertise in new product development and improvement initiatives.


Qualifications

Requirement

Details

Education

MD strongly preferred; PhD in a relevant field may be considered

Experience

Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, including cardiovascular (CV) medicine

Expertise

Clinical research, data interpretation, presentation, and communication

Skills

Strong presentation, analytical, and collaboration abilities

Travel

Up to 70% travel required

Compensation

💼 Base Salary Range:
$168,000 – $336,000
