DBM Innovation Clinical Lead – Technical (Early Data Generation & Device Evaluation)

The Clinical Innovation team is dedicated to:

  • Identifying, accelerating, and scaling innovations to improve trial operations and patient outcomes.

  • Driving Digital Biomarker (DBM) programs that use digital health technologies (DHTs) to generate valuable patient data, deliver insights, and enhance trial experiences.

  • Operating the DBM Innovation Lab (iLab), created to accelerate DBM adoption as clinical endpoints and maximize success in implementation.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and lead proof-of-concept and exploratory studies.

  • Generate early data and evaluate devices for DBM adoption.

  • Act as a hands-on technical lead, combining strong technical skills with healthcare innovation passion.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead study design, execution, data analysis, and insights generation.

  • Manage end-to-end proof-of-concept studies (device testing, new measures, novel datasets).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional experts (biostatistics, data science, clinical teams).

  • Translate research questions into “minimum viable product” experiments for technology selection.

  • Support and establish the DBM Innovation Lab (iLab) as a high-performing function.


Key Activities

  • Engage with trial operations to understand needs, workflows, and pain points.

  • Develop project plans, tracking systems, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Design resource-efficient, technically feasible testing approaches.

  • Contribute to protocol development (technical specs, data collection, QC).

  • Partner with data teams on data workflows and analysis.

  • Build direct vendor relationships for sourcing and troubleshooting devices.

  • Act as hands-on technical lead for study implementation, monitoring metrics.

  • Present findings with clarity for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Manage DBM solution portfolio and loaner device programs.

  • Stay updated on digital biomarker trends via forums and conferences.

  • Build knowledge in data structures, APIs, and integration solutions.

  • Develop processes and infrastructure to sustain DBM iLab efforts.

  • Support training via educational webinars and presentations.

  • Participate in technical standards development and industry working groups.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (biomedical engineering, computer science, data science, or related field).

  • 5–7 years’ experience in pharma, medical devices, or related industry.

  • Familiarity with digital technology and healthcare innovation.

  • Proven ability to deliver scalable, user-centered solutions.

  • Analytical skills: ability to identify issues and resolve via technical expertise.

  • Self-starter, enthusiastic about innovation, adaptable, open-minded.

  • Strong ability to collaborate in matrixed organizations.

  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, presentation) skills.

  • Organized, motivated, strong time management.

  • High standards for user experience in both participant and internal settings.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with clinical trial operations or digital R&D transformation.

  • Basic technical fluency in data systems, APIs, or machine learning.

  • Basic knowledge of analytics/statistics (SQL, Python, R, SAS).

  • Experience in user research/usability testing in regulated domains.

  • Product management experience.

  • Agile / continuous improvement experience.

  • MBA or consulting background.
