Clinical Program Leader – Translational Clinical Oncology | Novartis | Cambridge, MA

Job Summary

Novartis is hiring a Clinical Program Leader (CPL) or Senior Clinical Program Leader (Senior CPL) for Translational Clinical Oncology (TCO) based on-site in Cambridge, MA. This high-impact role is responsible for strategy, planning, and execution of early-phase oncology trials, working across disciplines including pharmacology, biomarkers, and biostatistics. You will lead global programs in the development of innovative cancer therapies that impact patient lives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic clinical guidance from development candidate phase through early clinical trials.

  • Design clinical development strategies integrating preclinical and translational science data.

  • Lead global Biomedical Research Program Teams (BPTs) across oncology indications.

  • Act as medical monitor and primary liaison with investigators, regulatory agencies, and KOLs.

  • Oversee protocol development, CRFs, analysis plans, and study reports for early phase trials.

  • Mentor less experienced CPLs and support scientific engagement and publication strategy.

  • Evaluate external opportunities for oncology-focused business development.

  • Ensure ethical, compliant, and high-quality execution of global clinical studies.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree required, board certification in oncology preferred.

  • Clinical Program Leader: 1–3 years of early phase oncology clinical development experience.

  • Senior CPL: 3–5+ years of oncology drug development leadership experience.

  • Proven ability to interpret preclinical data (molecular biology, PK, pharmacology, toxicology).

  • Experience designing and executing proof-of-concept (PoC) studies.

  • Strong understanding of GCP, regulatory standards, and global clinical operations.

  • Effective communicator with strong leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Familiarity with PK/PD modeling and biostatistical principles in oncology trials.
