Position Summary

The Chemist - Oligonucleotide Chemistry will join the Lilly Genetic Medicines (LGM) team, focusing on the discovery, development, and scale-up of therapeutic oligonucleotides. This position involves working within a multidisciplinary team to synthesize and analyze oligonucleotides such as ASO and siRNA, troubleshoot synthesis challenges, and collaborate on the development of RNAi-based clinical candidates.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery and Scale-Up of Oligonucleotides:

  • Lead the oligosynthesis scale-up group and collaborate with discovery chemistry teams.

  • Synthesize therapeutic oligonucleotides (ASO, siRNA, etc.) using automated solid-phase synthesizers.

  • Collaborate with analytical teams to ensure proper characterization and analysis of processed molecules.

Technical Problem Solving:

  • Overcome synthetic challenges and improve existing workflows.

  • Support the implementation of new technologies and workflows.

  • Troubleshoot issues during oligonucleotide processing.

Laboratory and Team Collaboration:

  • Manage laboratory equipment, inventory, and consumables.

  • Prioritize contractor work to meet critical timelines.

  • Collaborate with CMC and development teams to drive innovation.

Operational Excellence:

  • Streamline operations to reduce waste and enhance efficiency.

  • Maintain strong laboratory and analytical instrumentation skills (e.g., AKTA, Agilent LC-MS, UPLC).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's in Chemistry or a related scientific field.

  • 1+ years of experience with oligonucleotides.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Preferred experience in solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis.

  • Strong experience with AKTA Oligosynt or Oligopilot 100.

  • Experience with analytical instrumentation like AKTA, Agilent LC-MS, UPLC, and Vanquish LTQ.

  • Ability to meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills.

Compensation

  • Anticipated Salary: $63,000 - $162,800 annually.

  • Eligible for company bonus program (based on company and individual performance).
