Job Overview

A leading global intellectual property solutions provider is seeking a PCT Patent Analyst (Contract) with expertise in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology. This remote independent contractor role supports Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Chapter I Search and Examination services for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

This opportunity is ideal for technical professionals with patent research experience who want flexible, project-based work in patent search, prior art analysis, and patentability assessment.

The selected candidate will conduct comprehensive prior art searches and prepare written opinions evaluating patentability across diverse chemical and biotechnology innovations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accept and manage patent search projects based on availability and defined deadlines

  • Analyze technical disclosures to identify novel elements and distinguishing features

  • Conduct comprehensive prior art searches using commercial and proprietary patent databases

  • Develop structured search strategies and maintain complete search documentation

  • Prepare written opinions applying relevant prior art to determine patentability

  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and technical quality

  • Stay updated on patent search best practices and USPTO search procedures

  • Ensure compliance with professional ethics and confidentiality requirements

Required Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related scientific discipline.

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience working with patents, intellectual property, or patent search and examination.
Minimum 1 year of industry experience or advanced research in chemistry, chemical engineering, or biotechnology.

Eligibility & Compliance:

  • Must pass USPTO background check

  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance

  • U.S. citizen or legally work-eligible resident who has resided in the United States for the past two years

  • All work must be performed within the continental United States

Technical Skills:

  • Strong ability to interpret complex technical disclosures

  • Experience developing patent search methodologies

  • Familiarity with patent databases such as Orbit, PatBase, PatSeer, and Google Scholar

  • Strong time management and deadline adherence skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous patent examining or patent searching experience

  • Master’s degree or PhD in relevant scientific field

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Fully remote independent contractor position

  • Flexible working hours

  • Reliable high-speed internet (minimum 10 Mbps download / 1 Mbps upload)

  • Secure private workspace (public workspaces not permitted)

  • Business phone and voicemail access required

Compensation

This is a productivity-based compensation model.
Expected pay: USD 475 per completed patent case.
Earnings may vary based on expertise, efficiency, and workload volume.
