Job Summary

The Associate – Packaging (Regulatory Compliance) is responsible for leading packaging material qualification and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards for consumer products across the EMEA region. The role involves evaluation of packaging safety, coordination with suppliers, regulatory compliance verification, and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen packaging compliance processes.


Key Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Compliance & Qualification

  • Lead and manage the qualification of packaging materials used in consumer product lines.

  • Ensure full compliance with applicable EMEA regulations, including:

    • EC 1223/2009 – Cosmetic Products Regulation

    • REACH (EC No. 1272/2008) – Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals

    • French AGEC Law & Decree (Article L. 5232)

    • EU 2019/1021 – Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation

    • EC 10/2011 – Food Contact Materials (if applicable)

    • EU 528/2012 – Biocidal Products Regulation

    • PFAS-related compliance and material restrictions

2. Packaging Evaluation & Testing Oversight

  • Conduct or oversee packaging safety assessments, including:

    • Chemical compatibility, leaching, and migration studies

    • Stability and microbial integrity checks relevant to packaging performance

    • Substance screening for SVHCs, POPs, phthalates, PFAS, and other restricted materials

  • Review and validate supplier-provided documentation, including:

    • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

    • Certificates of Compliance (CoC)

    • Declarations of Conformity (DoC)

    • Migration test reports and recyclability data

3. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with internal teams (R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Procurement) and external suppliers/vendors for document collection, validation, and verification.

  • Ensure effective documentation management and communication of compliance status across stakeholders.

4. Leadership & Mentorship

  • Guide and mentor junior associates and team members involved in packaging compliance activities.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for regulatory adherence and packaging qualification workflows.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Packaging Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in the life sciences industry, specifically in packaging development, materials qualification, or regulatory compliance.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Working knowledge of packaging material chemistry, safety evaluation, and regulatory documentation.

    • Familiarity with EU and French packaging regulations and relevant testing methods.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Effective communication: Strong coordination and timely communication with both internal stakeholders and suppliers.

    • Critical thinking: Ability to ask the right questions, streamline redundant steps, and apply learnings from previous projects to new compliance challenges.

    • Attention to detail: Ensures precision in reviewing documentation and interpreting regulatory guidelines.
