Position: Associate Publications Writer

Job Overview

As an Associate Publications Writer, you will provide vital support to the Global Medical Affairs team within the Pfizer Biopharmaceuticals Group (PBG). Your role will involve developing high-quality scientific content, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress presentations, and other medical materials. You will collaborate closely with the Publications Writer and Medical Affairs colleagues to ensure timely, accurate, and impactful communication of scientific information.


Key Responsibilities

Content Development

  • Assist in creating scientific documents, such as abstracts, manuscripts, congress presentations, posters, and slide decks, under supervision.
  • Perform data mining and analysis to support the development of scientific content.
  • Ensure data quality control and objective, accurate representation in all materials.
  • Train in and contribute to developing plain language summaries for manuscripts, as needed.

Publication Policies & Compliance

  • Adhere to company policies and general publication guidelines during all stages of document preparation.
  • Provide regular updates on projects through trackers and presentations in pre-defined formats.

Congress Support

  • Provide scientific support during congresses, including material development and reporting.

Medical Affairs Support

  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare summaries for Medical Affairs.
  • Develop slide decks and other materials as required.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure all deliverables are completed within the specified timelines, budget, and in compliance with guidelines.

Required Skills and Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Scientific Writing: Strong ability to interpret, summarize, and present complex data concisely and effectively.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in bibliographic tools like OvidSP, PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Biosis for data analysis and hypothesis testing.
  • Language Proficiency: Exceptional written and functional spoken English.
  • Software Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and reference management tools like EndNote. Experience with literature searching and databases is a plus.

Personal Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills to guide content strategies effectively.

Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Postgraduate or Doctorate degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medical Sciences, or equivalent.

Experience

  • For Medical Graduates/PhDs: 2–3 years of relevant experience.
  • For Master's Degree Holders: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in publication writing.
  • Prior experience in academic settings, communication agencies, CROs, or pharmaceutical/biotech companies.
  • Familiarity with search tools, creating search strings, and assessing search results for data analysis is preferred.

Managerial Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Publications Lead - GMAIST.
  • Collaborates with Publications Writers, Global Medical Affairs Leads, and Publication Coordinators.
  • Interacts with local, regional, and global Medical Affairs colleagues.
