Role: Associate Director – Statistics (Lilly Bengaluru)

Purpose of the Role

To lead and develop a statistical science function within the Statistics, Data & Analytics organization. The position involves strategic planning, portfolio delivery, capability building, resource management, compliance, and talent development.


Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio Delivery & Strategy

  • Develop a deep understanding of Lilly’s therapeutic areas.

  • Lead cross-functional teams and act as a scientific thought leader.

  • Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of statistical outputs with strong metrics.

  • Participate in strategic planning and monitor delivery KPIs.

  • Prioritize workload and resolve scope-related issues.

  • Manage resource allocation for internal and outsourced projects.

  • Engage with global leadership for data execution decisions.

  • Collaborate with other functions for accurate forecasting and planning.

  • Build therapeutic area expertise within the Bengaluru team.


2. Statistical & Analytical Capability Development

  • Establish advanced statistical and analytical capabilities in the center.

  • Guide and supervise a diverse technical team.

  • Develop strategies to strengthen deep statistical expertise.

  • Foster excellence in therapeutic, scientific, and environmental knowledge.


3. Enterprise Leadership

  • Demonstrate strong technical, strategic, and business acumen across teams.

  • Represent the Statistics, Data & Analytics function internally and externally.

  • Stay updated on key regulatory requirements (US, EU, Japan, China).

  • Influence industry-level changes as an external thought leader.

  • Ensure compliance with global laws, regulations, and internal best practices.

  • Drive continuous improvement and shared learning across teams.


4. People Management & Development

  • Provide technical and managerial leadership to develop future statistical leaders.

  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and integrate Bengaluru talent into global teams.

  • Build and retain a highly skilled workforce in Statistics, Data & Analytics.

  • Maintain an agile organizational culture centered on inclusion and innovation.

  • Develop staff in drug development, project management, and cross-functional leadership.

  • Promote judgment-based decision-making at all levels.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics/Biostatistics

  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience

  • Strong understanding of drug development processes, regulatory expectations, and industry standards.

  • Proven leadership and management experience (internal & external teams).

  • Strong project and resource management skills.

  • Excellent team-building and relationship-building abilities.
