Overview

The Associate Clinical Programming Director plays a strategic leadership role within the Digital Strategy, Analytics, and Programming function. This position guides key programming initiatives, partners closely with Research & Development teams, and ensures high-quality data outputs that support Data Management and Clinical Operations. The role is responsible for driving innovation, standardization, and efficient data delivery across multiple clinical programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and update programming specifications based on Data Management and Clinical Operations requirements.

  • Create high-quality clinical programming reports, including EDC listings, edit check reports, adverse event coding review reports, patient profiles, protocol deviation reports, serious AE reconciliations, vendor/lab reconciliations, special character listings, CRF metric reports, and other required outputs.

  • Communicate proactively with Data Managers and Clinical Operations leads regarding data review findings.

  • Build standard macros, utilities, and automation tools to streamline repetitive programming activities.

  • Lead strategic initiatives that impact business performance, technical capabilities, and operational processes across the organization.

  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to support ongoing development programs.

  • Lead data delivery strategy, ensuring a balance between customer needs, timelines, and organizational efficiency.

  • Promote global standardization, continuous improvement, and productivity enhancement across teams.

  • Drive innovation in programming capabilities, technology adoption, and process modernization.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop programming talent while supporting workforce planning for current and future needs.

  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives with Clinical Operations, Therapeutic Areas, and R&D leadership.

  • Represent the organization in industry forums to help shape best practices and future ways of working.

  • Ensure department deliverables are completed within approved budgets.

  • Maintain full compliance with organizational policies, standards, and ethical guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This role does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but requires strong leadership and mentoring abilities.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, or a related field with minimum 11 years of relevant experience, OR

  • Master’s degree in a related field with minimum 9 years of relevant experience, OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Experience Required

  • Strong experience in clinical programming within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Proven expertise with SAS, R, Python, Spotfire, and Tableau.

  • Demonstrated leadership in data acquisition, analytics, and AI-driven capabilities across clinical domains.

  • Experience managing functional budgets and implementing scalable business processes.

  • Prior success in leading global teams and collaborating with senior-level external partners.

  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical development processes and trial operations across varying complexities.

  • Track record of developing talent, leading change, and driving innovation across multidisciplinary teams.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is USD 163,000 – USD 231,000, depending on geographic region, experience, and internal equity.
