About the Role

The Assistant Manager will lead and manage a team of certified medical coders, ensuring operational efficiency, quality, and compliance. This role focuses on team leadership, performance management, employee engagement, and continuous process improvement within the coding department.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead a team of 25–30 certified coders.

  • Onboard, orient, and train new employees while maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

  • Conduct performance management including monitoring timeliness, quality, and productivity metrics.

  • Coach, counsel, and discipline team members as required.

  • Plan, monitor, and appraise job results; enforce systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

  • Drive employee engagement and retention activities by sharing company vision, empowering staff, and providing regular feedback.

Quality & Process Management

  • Maintain quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards.

  • Analyze and resolve quality and customer service issues, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, benchmarking, and professional society participation.

Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, employment contracts, and directives, including transfers, reassignments, work shifts, and alternative work arrangements.

  • Foster teamwork and maintain a results-driven environment under pressure.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate in any discipline.

  • Certification: Certified medical coder through AAPC or AHIMA.

  • Experience:

    • 2+ years as a Team Leader or Assistant Manager

    • Experience managing a team of at least 15 coders

    • Background in medical coding operations

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Performance management, coaching, supervision, and giving feedback

    • Quality management and results-driven mindset

    • Teamwork and ability to handle pressure effectively

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

    • Ability to operate basic office equipment (copier, facsimile)
