About the Role

The Assistant Manager will lead and manage medical coding operations, ensuring compliance, productivity, and quality. This role involves team leadership, stakeholder management, client communication, and operational strategy to drive efficiency and achieve business goals.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Maintain updated knowledge of coding, billing requirements, and regulatory changes.

  • Monitor KPIs including productivity, quality, turnaround time (TAT), attendance, and attrition.

  • Analyze data and ensure quick, logical turnaround of operational tasks.

  • Evaluate operational practices and procedures for efficiency and compliance.

  • Support quality initiatives aimed at process improvements.

  • Participate in internal audits and ensure compliance with all parameters.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage personnel, performance, and discipline of assigned project teams.

  • Provide direction, coaching, and feedback to staff, including 1-on-1 mentoring.

  • Identify training needs and deliver educational interventions to address gaps.

  • Monitor day-to-day operations and manage attrition by building retention strategies.

  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages morale, creativity, teamwork, and quality.

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and clients; act as the front-end point of contact.

  • Handle client communication, negotiate solutions, resolve conflicts, and anticipate critical situations.

  • Collaborate with SMEs, auditors, and trainers to ensure operational excellence.

Strategic & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support senior management in planning, implementing, and improving operational systems and procedures.

  • Prepare annual business plans and operating budgets.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, employment contracts, and directives, including reassignments, work shifts, and alternative work arrangements.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate or Postgraduate in Life Sciences or Allied Medicine (BHMS, BAMS, BPT, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing).

  • Experience:

    • 8+ years in medical coding

    • 2+ years in a Team Lead or supervisory role

  • Certification: AAPC/AHIMA certified coder (CCS, CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P)

  • Skills & Knowledge:

    • Medical terminology, human anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, ICD-10-CM, CPT

    • Healthcare reimbursement methodologies

    • Organizational workflow, operational procedures, and analytical thinking

    • Team management, coaching, and employee engagement

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
