Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced researcher with expertise in AI agents, planning, and decision-making algorithms to join Lilly’s Discovery Chemistry Research and Technologies (DCRT) team. This role will focus on developing AI agents that autonomously plan, execute, and optimize complex chemistry and biology workflows, using advanced AI techniques to accelerate drug discovery.

As part of this multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with experts across AI@Lilly, Tech@Lilly, as well as in chemistry, biology, and automation. Your contributions will play a key role in transforming the drug discovery process and advancing the development of life-changing medicines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • AI Agent Framework Development:
Design and develop an AI Agent platform to enable autonomous agents to optimize chemistry and biology workflows. Integrate multiple AI agents to enhance collaboration and scalability in scientific processes.

  • Workflow Automation:
Create solutions using large language models (LLMs) and Generative AI to automate multi-modal data processing, analysis, and interpretation in chemistry and bioinformatics.

  • AI Engineering and Optimization:
Train, fine-tune, and deploy transformer-based models for chemistry and biology applications. Focus on improving the performance of these models for use in drug discovery.

  • Research and Collaboration:
Conduct independent research and collaborate with chemists, biologists, and computer scientists to integrate AI solutions into existing workflows and optimize drug discovery processes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience developing and/or integrating chemistry or biology software (e.g., REINVENT, chemprop).
  • Strong experience with machine learning/data science libraries (e.g., PyTorch, Keras, HuggingFace, Pandas, Scikit-Learn).
  • Demonstrated experience in LLM engineering (e.g., tokenization, prompt engineering, chain-of-thought) through coursework or portfolio projects.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of multi-modal data in chemistry or biology.
  • Familiarity with agent-based modeling and agentic frameworks in scientific domains.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of wet-lab scientists.
  • Experience in training, fine-tuning, and deploying large-scale transformer-based models.
  • Expertise in reinforcement learning and inference time compute algorithms.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
