About the Role

The Vice President, Medical Science and Strategy – Hematology/Oncology is a senior leadership role within the PPD Clinical Research division. The position requires deep oncology expertise, strategic vision, and the ability to drive measurable business outcomes through scientific leadership and client engagement.

The incumbent will be recognized as an industry peer among pharmaceutical executives and will play a critical role in advancing PPD’s leadership in the oncology field.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic & Business Leadership

  • Provide high-level medical and scientific input for major Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

  • Guide strategies on drug development, regulatory issues, protocol design, and safety considerations.

  • Engage with senior medical and scientific leaders at client organizations during bid defenses.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the oncology sector.

2. Client & Partnership Development

  • Drive proactive client engagement through peer-to-peer interactions with global therapeutic area leaders.

  • Support strategic alliances, governance boards, and advisory panels.

  • Deliver gold-standard product development plans and top-level clinical protocol designs via PPD’s consulting practice.

3. Scientific & Clinical Expertise

  • Provide subject matter expertise across the hematology/oncology therapeutic area.

  • Deliver indication-specific training for clinical teams and guide execution of clinical trials.

  • Review and author regulatory and clinical documentation, including:

    • Investigator’s Brochure

    • Clinical Study Reports

    • NDA/BLA submission packages

    • Regulatory briefing documents

  • Lead feasibility study design and interpretation.

  • Mentor and supervise clinical scientists and medical staff.

  • Collaborate with investigators and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).

4. External Consulting & Innovation

  • Advise external clients in developing pre-IND proposals and clinical development programs.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary internal and external working groups focused on innovation and strategic advancement.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Certified Oncologist (MD or equivalent).

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry leading oncology clinical development programs.

  • Proven track record in advancing oncology assets from discovery through NDA/BLA registration.

  • Experience with early-stage development and Pre-IND FDA consultations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead at an enterprise level and convene advisory boards of external experts.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep understanding of oncology therapeutic development and trial design.

  • Knowledge of adaptive trial designs and Bayesian statistics.

  • Practical experience with AI-based tools in clinical research.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Primarily remote office-based role; exposure to standard office equipment.

  • Frequent sitting (6–8 hours/day), computer use, and communication via digital tools.

  • Occasional domestic and international travel for meetings and conferences.

  • Light lifting (15–20 lbs) when traveling or transporting materials.

  • Requires sustained focus, multitasking, and ability to work independently under variable conditions.
