Position Overview

Roche is seeking an experienced Vice President of Medical & Scientific Affairs (MSA) for Cardiometabolism and Neurology. This executive leadership role is responsible for driving the U.S. medical strategy across multiple portfolios, guiding a diverse team of medical strategy leaders and field professionals, and ensuring alignment with global and cross-functional stakeholders.

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, the VP will:

  • Define and execute strategic medical priorities for assigned disease areas.

  • Lead and develop high-performing teams of medical leaders.

  • Build and maintain scientific relationships with healthcare experts, societies, and advocacy groups.

  • Provide strategic guidance on clinical development, evidence generation, and regulatory planning.

  • Ensure diagnostic and healthcare solutions reach the right patients at the right time.


Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and mentor senior medical strategy leaders, fostering a culture of high performance and innovation.

  • Identify and develop emerging leaders, contributing to succession planning and enterprise-wide leadership initiatives.

  • Oversee resource allocation and capability development to optimize organizational impact.

Medical & Scientific Strategy

  • Develop and communicate comprehensive U.S. medical strategies for cardiometabolism and neurology portfolios.

  • Ensure alignment with global and cross-functional teams on scientific priorities.

  • Direct tactical execution of evidence generation, medical education, external engagement, and field interactions.

  • Provide expert input for pipeline development, product planning, and regulatory submissions.

  • Manage budgets responsibly while maintaining an enterprise perspective.

External Scientific Engagement

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key scientific experts, professional societies, and advocacy groups.

  • Gather insights to inform medical strategy and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Represent Roche at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and guideline committees.

Enterprise Leadership

  • Lead organizational initiatives to shape MSA culture, strategy, and capabilities.

  • Navigate change and ambiguity, ensuring successful execution of department and enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Promote collaboration across marketing, clinical development, R&D, and access teams.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: MD, PhD, or other advanced scientific/healthcare degree.

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of medical affairs or cross-functional leadership experience in pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, or healthcare.

  • Proven track record in people management and leadership development.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute medical strategies in a complex, matrixed environment.

  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of formal leadership experience managing leaders within Medical & Scientific Affairs.

  • Broad experience across strategy, field, and operational MSA functions.

  • Clinical or industry expertise in cardiometabolism or neurology.

  • Experience in in vitro diagnostics (IVDs), healthcare, or clinical laboratory environments.

  • Established relationships with key external stakeholders and professional societies.

  • Experience in leading organizational change and cross-functional initiatives.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $304,045 – $375,585 USD (based on Indianapolis, IN location)

  • Eligibility for discretionary annual bonus and long-term incentive programs.
