Position Overview

Abbott’s Plano, TX location is seeking a Patient Therapy Access Specialist (PTA) for a full-time, onsite role (Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM). The PTA Specialist will manage insurance authorization workflows to support patients undergoing Abbott-recommended therapies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple patient cases simultaneously within defined timelines

  • Verify insurance benefits and complete authorization requests accurately

  • Conduct timely follow-up with payers to secure pending authorizations

  • Audit clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness

  • Obtain authorization for facilities, equipment, and physicians from insurance carriers

  • Collaborate with provider offices to gather necessary clinical information

  • Coordinate with payer utilization review departments to secure approvals

  • Support appeals processes when required

  • Maintain strict compliance with data privacy, storage, and use policies

  • Ensure adherence to Abbott’s operational standards throughout the authorization process

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing, Home Health (LVN/LPN), or a related healthcare field, or equivalent education and experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a utilization review, medical authorization, or closely related environment

  • Strong knowledge of private insurance, Medicare, and Worker’s Compensation guidelines related to prospective and retrospective utilization review

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Basic understanding of CPT codes and working familiarity with ICD-10-CM

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation

  • Willingness to travel up to 5 percent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in medical device billing or DME billing

  • Experience using medical billing software

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance payer portals (Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield)

  • Experience submitting and managing precertification and prior authorization cases

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Ability to troubleshoot portal issues and escalate as needed

  • Experience in presenting or training small groups

Compensation

Base Pay Range: $20.05 – $40.15 per hour
Compensation may vary depending on location and experience.
