About the Department:

We oversee the entire R&D continuum, from early research through late-stage clinical development, creating a collaborative, cutting-edge environment. Our Translational Medicine department is at the heart of this, focusing on developing and deploying pharmacodynamic biomarkers in Phase 1 trials to facilitate data-driven decision-making. The Position:

We are seeking a Translational Medicine Lead to join our Translational Medicine, Research and Early Development team based in Boston. This role will be pivotal in advancing our biomarker strategy and ensuring the integration of translational medicine biomarkers from early research through clinical studies. As the Translational Medicine Lead, you will guide the development of innovative biomarkers, enabling the successful execution of Phase 1 trials and advancing our pipeline to meet unmet medical needs.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership in Biomarker Development:

  • Lead the development and deployment of target engagement and pharmacodynamic biomarkers for Phase 1 clinical trials.
  • Implement prospective stop/go criteria to facilitate decision-making based on robust data.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure biomarkers are seamlessly integrated from preclinical research to clinical studies.

Scientific Expertise and Innovation:

  • Develop and expand scientific knowledge in biomarkers, precision medicine, and relevant therapeutic areas, such as metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
  • Provide strategic input to clinical development, based on the principles of Translational and Precision Medicine.
  • Actively contribute to updates of processes and SOPs involving Translational Medicine.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Effectively communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams, external partners, and at scientific conferences.
  • Present complex data to diverse audiences with clarity and impact.
  • Engage in regular collaboration with external research experts to gain insights into the latest developments in the field.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience, ideally combining academic and industry roles.
  • Experience bridging preclinical and clinical translational work. Experience in metabolic and/or cardiovascular disease is a plus.

Skills & Expertise:

  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing pharmacodynamic biomarkers in clinical trials.
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on presentation abilities and working across organizational levels and functions.
  • A pioneering attitude, with the ability to lead teams, drive innovation, and create differentiated products for patient needs.
  • A dynamic self-starter with the ability to proactively lead projects and teams.

Preferred Experience:

  • Proven ability to strategically develop and implement pharmacodynamic biomarkers during the drug development process.
  • Extensive experience in deploying biomarkers in clinical trials, from design to implementation.
