Role Overview: Animal Care Technician – Research & Development

At Pfizer, the Animal Care Research & Development team plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper care and welfare of animals used in research studies. As an Animal Care Technician, you will be responsible for performing essential husbandry duties, supporting research by providing technical services, and maintaining accurate animal health and identification records. Your work will contribute directly to Pfizer's mission of delivering breakthroughs that change patients’ lives by ensuring the success of R&D studies that are vital for advancing therapies and vaccines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Husbandry & Welfare:

    • Perform routine duties such as feeding, cleaning, and maintaining animal living spaces.
    • Observe and report on the health, behavior, and overall well-being of the animals.
    • Ensure proper care and handling of animals, including restraining, administering doses, and blood collection as needed for research studies.
  2. Support Research Activities:

    • Assist researchers by providing technical services such as administering substances or performing routine procedures to support studies.
    • Maintain accurate records for animal identification and health status, including food and water consumption, appearance, and behavior.
  3. Operational Support:

    • Contribute to general operations within the facility, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to standard.
    • Prioritize work effectively to meet deadlines, balancing routine care and research support.
  4. Professional Development:

    • Manage your own time and professional development by prioritizing tasks and responsibilities effectively.
    • Be accountable for your work results, while maintaining attention to detail and high standards.

Qualifications:

Must-Have:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a laboratory animal setting.
  • Ability to work with all species housed at the site.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and ability to perform technical tasks.
  • Ability to comprehend both written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic computer skills (email, online forms, web-based training, etc.).

Nice-to-Have:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • AALAS Certification.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical setting.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks such as pushing and pulling racks, lifting heavy items, and performing repetitive physical activities like bending, reaching, and stooping.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods.

Non-Standard Work Schedule and Travel Requirements:

  • Weekend and holiday work may be required to support operations.
  • The role involves essential personnel duties, meaning you may be required to report to work during emergencies or when operations are suspended.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly wage: $25.82 to $43.03, with eligibility for overtime, weekend, holiday, and other pay premiums depending on the work schedule.
