Description:

Position Summary:

Supervises the decontamination, sterilization, storage, and limited distribution of patient care supplies and equipment. This includes the development of departmental policies, standard operating procedures, quality standards, and workflows.

Essential Functions:

  • Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, and co-workers.
  • Demonstrates progressive leadership and effective management through building a strong team and supporting a learning culture.
  • Allocates resources effectively and manages departmental budget.
  • Supervises the decontamination, sterilization, storage, and limited distribution of patient care supplies and equipment. This includes the development of departmental policies, standard operating procedures, quality standards, and workflows.
  • Supervises the department’s inventory control practices.
  • Collects, monitors, and maintains departmental statistics to ensure compliance with all accreditation, local, state, and federal regulations.

  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of successful and progressively responsible experience in inventory management, sterile processing, instrument management, case cart make-up, and supervision of employees with demonstrated leadership ability in a medical center are required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of AORN or AAMI, FDA, OSHA, and EPA regulations and guidelines preferred.
  • Operates and is knowledgeable of all equipment in Central Sterile Processing (case carts, steam & EtO sterilizers, washer/sterilizers, cart washer, sonic cleaner, computer, surgical instruments, etc.) required.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required or
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.
