Position Overview

Abbott’s Vascular Division in Temecula, California is seeking a Sterilization Microbiologist to support sterilization validation processes for new and existing medical devices. This role is essential to ensuring regulatory compliance, product safety, and effective sterilization methodologies across a robust vascular product portfolio, including drug-eluting stents, guide wires, balloon catheters, vascular closure devices, and imaging systems.

This position is ideal for early-career professionals looking to build strong technical expertise in sterilization microbiology within a regulated medical device environment.

Key Responsibilities

Sterilization Validation & Qualification

  • Perform sterilization validation for new and existing products using Ethylene Oxide (EO) and Radiation sterilization methods.

  • Support R&D and manufacturing teams on sterilization-related requirements for new products and product modifications.

  • Conduct sterilization qualification studies for new products and process changes.

Radiation & Ethylene Oxide Program Support

  • Execute radiation dose-setting activities and quarterly dose audits.

  • Conduct EO sterilization validations, revalidations, residual EO testing, and D-value studies.

  • Lead investigations related to dose audit failures and biological indicator sterility positives.

Regulatory & Quality Compliance

  • Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) for sterilization non-conformances.

  • Perform activities in strict adherence to quality system regulations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and governmental requirements.

  • Apply technical concepts, procedures, and professional practices to resolve routine sterilization-related issues.

Education & Experience Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related scientific field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • 0–2 years of experience in sterilization, microbiology, or medical device manufacturing.

  • Basic understanding of sterilization principles, microbiology techniques, and regulatory expectations.

  • Ability to work within a regulated quality system environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to learn and apply company policies, procedures, and scientific concepts in daily activities.
