About the Role

As Director of Statistical Programming, you will lead, oversee, and coordinate all statistical programming activities, ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met and resources are efficiently allocated. You will work collaboratively with Operations heads, cross-functional teams, and partner groups to maintain statistical programming as best in class in the industry.

This role requires technical expertise, leadership, and strategic vision to drive continuous improvements, enhance processes, and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and quality within Advanced Quantitative Sciences (AQS) Early Development.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Functional Excellence

  • Act as a functional leader within Advanced Quantitative Sciences (AQS) with an enterprise mindset.
  • Drive productivity and efficiency measures to meet AQS Early Development strategic imperatives.
  • Foster statistical programming innovations, ensuring efficient implementation and knowledge sharing across Novartis.

Team Development & Talent Management

  • Recruit, develop, manage, and mentor statistical programming leaders (DA Leads/Group Heads).
  • Establish a high-performing organization focused on disease area knowledge, innovation, and trust.
  • Collaborate with People & Organization (P&O) to develop strategies for talent acquisition and retention.

Statistical Programming & Compliance

  • Oversee programming requirements for clinical trial data analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., CDISC), Novartis guidelines, and Health Authority regulations.
  • Maintain audit readiness and actively participate in regulatory inspections.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify the need for enhanced technical capabilities (e.g., R programming, disease area expertise).
  • Lead and support global clinical and non-clinical initiatives to enhance functional excellence.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to optimize statistical programming processes.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background

  • University degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Statistics, or a relevant field.

Industry Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in Drug Development, with at least 10 years in Statistical Programming.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience, including line management or matrix management.

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Strong expertise in clinical trial methodology, GCP, and medical terminology.
  • Experience in Therapeutic Areas (TA): Immunology, Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases, and Neuroscience.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and fluency in English.
