Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist for our R&D division to drive organic synthesis and innovation in chemical processes. This role will support research projects and troubleshooting in plant operations, particularly in chlorinated products. The ideal candidate will have significant expertise in organic chemistry, laboratory safety, and industrial synthesis.


Key Responsibilities

Organic Synthesis:

  • Perform literature searches through patents, journals, Scifinder, and other sources.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and synthesize compounds according to assigned projects.
  • Handle hazardous gases (e.g., chlorine, hydrogen, nitrogen) with safety and precision.
  • Apply expertise in reactions such as chlorination, nitration, reduction, and other basic organic reactions.
  • Troubleshoot existing chlorinated products in plant operations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic unit processes like reactions, distillation, filtration, and drying.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Maintain safety standards in the laboratory and plant, ensuring good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Coordinate with safety officers and implement necessary safety measures and documentation.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Indent and manage R&D lab items, ensuring proper inventory and documentation.
  • Familiarity with ISO documentation standards.
  • Maintain detailed records in ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook), BAAN, and SAP.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on research activities and progress.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation and project reports.

Teamwork & Coordination:

  • Coordinate with team members and subordinates to ensure smooth operations.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including plant operations, quality control, and safety.
  • Present research findings clearly and effectively, both in written and verbal forms.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • PhD or MSc in Organic Chemistry or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of industry experience in organic synthesis and chemical process research, particularly in chlorinated and industrial chemicals.
  • Hands-on experience in handling hazardous chemicals and gases.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical reactions, unit processes, and laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with laboratory and industrial safety protocols.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to troubleshoot plant and laboratory issues effectively.
