Role Overview

The Senior Manager – Publications Delivery will lead the Alexion Publications Delivery team, overseeing a multi-disciplinary group of publication writers, graphic designers, InVision specialists, and editors. This hybrid role combines people leadership, operational excellence, and hands-on publication management, ensuring high-quality, timely delivery of scientific publications across multiple therapy areas.

This position is ideal for a seasoned publications professional with experience in Global Capability Centres (GCCs) or service agencies, capable of building teams from the ground up, implementing SOPs, defining KPIs, and delivering large-scale publication operations with consistent quality.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Establish, scale, and manage a high-performing publication delivery team, defining roles, levels, and career pathways

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and development plans for publication writers, graphic designers, and editors

  • Drive performance management including goal setting, reviews, and recognition of high performance

  • Forecast demand, plan capacity, manage hiring, onboarding, and succession

Operations Management & Delivery Excellence

  • Oversee end-to-end publication processes: planning, drafting, review cycles, approvals, and finalization

  • Develop and implement SOPs, RACI matrices, workflows, and operating models across therapy areas

  • Identify bottlenecks, drive continuous improvement, and standardize best practices using Lean or Kaizen principles

  • Define and track SLAs, KPIs, OKRs, and other operational metrics

  • Ensure QA/QC processes, editorial standards, audit readiness, and compliance with GPP and internal policies

  • Proactively manage risks, maintain RAID logs, and escalate issues as required

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Build strong relationships with internal publication teams, global cross-functional partners, and external agencies

  • Manage intake, prioritization, resourcing, and scheduling of publication requests

  • Lead governance meetings, publish dashboards, and present performance metrics to leadership

  • Define vendor scopes, monitor performance, and ensure cost-effectiveness and compliance

Publication Delivery Expertise

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to senior and expert publication writers

  • Resolve complex publication challenges, conflicting author comments, and evolving stakeholder requirements

  • Ensure alignment with GPP, ICMJE, CONSORT/PRISMA guidelines, and internal compliance policies

  • Implement AI tools and publication technologies to improve quality, efficiency, and consistency

  • Develop and maintain templates, checklists, SOPs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field (PhD/MD/PharmD/MSc preferred)

  • Experience: 10–15 years in medical publications/medical writing, with 5+ years in people management and operational leadership

  • Proven experience in establishing new publication teams/functions, implementing SOPs, KPIs, and delivery governance

  • Deep knowledge of GPP, ICMJE, CONSORT/PRISMA, ethical authorship, journal/congress processes

  • Expertise in operational excellence, QA, metrics, and continuous improvement in publication delivery

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influence skills, with global exposure and cross-time zone collaboration
