Job Purpose:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical expert with in-depth knowledge of disease states, Lilly and competitor compounds, and related therapeutic areas. MSLs serve as a critical communication link between the scientific community and Lilly, providing scientific insights and feedback that help shape the company’s strategic direction in research and development. This role is an excellent opportunity to influence healthcare outcomes through scientific exchange and to address key clinical and scientific questions.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintain and Effectively Communicate Deep Scientific Knowledge:

  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on the latest medical and scientific data within the therapeutic area.
  • Provide scientifically accurate, unbiased, and up-to-date information on disease states, compounds, and clinical studies.
  • Be recognized by customers as a trusted and reliable source of medical and scientific expertise.

2. Excel at Customer Engagement and Support Medical/Scientific Information Needs:

  • Spend the majority of time field-based and customer-facing, engaging in two-way dialogues with scientific experts.
  • Use emotional intelligence and an understanding of customer needs to deliver high-quality, tailored scientific support.
  • Address customer inquiries by providing advanced information on disease states and Lilly’s products.
  • Facilitate connections between scientific experts and Lilly’s internal teams for collaborative research or partnerships.

3. Strategic Vision and Leadership:

  • Synthesize complex scientific data and communicate clinical insights and customer feedback to Lilly's medical and cross-functional teams.
  • Use creative problem-solving to identify solutions and support internal teams with effective resources.
  • Cultivate internal networks and collaborate across functions to contribute to medical planning and strategy.
  • Make independent decisions using a principle-based approach and escalate when necessary.

4. Territory Ownership:

  • Demonstrate strategic analysis and planning to prioritize activities effectively within the assigned geography.
  • Take personal accountability for results and ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Execute the role in alignment with company guidelines, demonstrating good judgment at all times.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field).
  • A medical degree (MD) and/or relevant therapy area experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience as an MSL or in a field-based medical role, with expertise in building relationships with Scientific Experts and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Strong experience in servicing complex customer needs and providing scientific information.
  • Familiarity with academic communities, health systems, medical research, and the medical education process is highly valued.

Desired Skills:

  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 80% of the time within the assigned geography, with some weekend work required.
  • Scientific Curiosity: Strong intellectual curiosity in the field of science/medicine relevant to the therapeutic area.
  • Learning Agility: Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex scientific content clearly and concisely.
  • Independence & Organization: Self-directed, capable of managing multiple priorities and working alone effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in Arabic and English.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze, assess, and evaluate information to determine its relevance and impact on future outcomes.
  • Teamwork & Emotional Intelligence: Ability to build professional relationships and network effectively within and outside the organization.
