Role Overview

As a Senior Manager – Competitive Intelligence (CI), R&D, you will lead intelligence gathering activities to support Amgen’s R&D, Commercial, and Legal teams. You will report to the Director, Forecasting & Competitive Intelligence, and play a key role in driving insight generation for pipeline and early-stage assets.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver CI insights and reports for R&D, Commercial, and Legal stakeholders.

  • Conduct secondary research using databases such as clinicaltrials.gov, TrialTrove, Cortellis, Evaluate Pharma, Datamonitor, PubMed, Factset, AlphaSense, USPTO patents, and Drugs@FDA.

  • Define and execute Key Intelligence Topics (KITs) and Key Intelligence Questions (KIQs) with R&D teams.

  • Monitor and synthesize scientific/medical conference insights and provide detailed debrief reports.

  • Assess US patent landscapes relevant to early drug development.

  • Manage CI vendors for primary research, engaging with KOLs, investigators, physicians, field force, MSLs, and investor relations.

  • Partner with cross-functional R&D, commercial, medical, and scientific teams to develop therapeutic area strategies.

  • Analyze clinical trials and regulatory trends to model competitor launch scenarios across US, EU, Japan, China, and other key markets.

  • Contribute competitor insights to forecasting models, go/no-go decisions, and BD opportunity assessments.

  • Support business development through pipeline evaluation and market analysis.

  • Travel requirement: ~5%.


Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree with 6+ years of CI/BD/Equity Research/Patent Law/Consulting/Tech Transfer experience
    OR

  • Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate with 9+ years, Master’s with 11+ years, or Bachelor’s with 15+ years of relevant experience.

  • Proven expertise in synthesizing complex scientific/clinical data into actionable insights.

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

  • Prior experience in global pharma/biotech and familiarity with drug development pathways in US/EU5/Canada.

  • Experience with early pipeline development, BD CI, equity research, or patent law.

  • Knowledge of drug discovery, development, clinical trials, regulatory frameworks (FDA/EMA), and commercialization.

  • Track record of managing multiple, simultaneous projects with proprietary technical, regulatory, and financial data sources.

  • Strong grasp of pharmaceutical forecasting models and competitor assumptions to support long-range planning.
