1. Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Global Scientific Communications, leads the development and execution of global scientific communication and publication strategies for assigned products and franchises. The role requires strong scientific expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate complex clinical data into impactful scientific deliverables. Collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external authors, investigators, and agencies is central to this position.


2. Key Accountabilities

Strategic Publications & Communications

  • Support senior leadership in building and implementing strategic publication plans.

  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize complex scientific and clinical data.

  • Identify suitable publication platforms (journals, congresses, presentations).

Scientific Content Development

  • Lead or assist in planning, writing, revising, and submitting:

    • Abstracts

    • Posters

    • Oral presentations

    • Manuscripts (from Alexion-sponsored clinical trials)

  • Conduct scientific literature searches and competitor assessments.

  • Interpret scientific literature for internal stakeholders.

Project & Process Management

  • Track and manage timely execution of publication plans.

  • Oversee documentation and agency work within publication planning software.

  • Ensure compliance with Alexion Publication Policy and good publication practices (GPP).

Medical Education Support

  • Contribute to planning and execution of medical education initiatives:

    • Symposia

    • CME programs

    • Content for scientific and educational activities


3. Essential Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • PharmD, PhD, or MD.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year in:

    • Pharmaceutical company OR

    • Medical Communications agency

Core Skills

  • Strong scientific writing and editing experience.

  • Ability to interpret clinical trial data and statistical outputs.

  • Knowledge of publication guidelines (e.g., GPP).

  • Capable of developing abstracts, posters, manuscripts, slide decks.

  • Experience reviewing complex scientific data.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with medical, biostats, research, marketing, and agencies.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.


4. Desirable/Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of clinical development processes and global health outcome data.

  • Experience in:

    • Strategic publication planning

    • Working with KOLs and authors

    • Symposia planning

    • Development of medical education materials

  • Familiarity with publication management tools (e.g., Datavision).


5. Compensation & Benefits

Annual Base Salary: $113,000 – $170,000 (dependent on experience, location, and skills)
