Scientist III, (NMR)
Location: Hyderabad, India
Job Category: Chemistry & Scientific Standards
Job Type: Full-time
Req ID: SCIEN002716

Job Overview:

The Scientist III in the Digital and Innovation group at USP will play a pivotal role in the development of next-generation analytical and digital technologies for pharmaceutical R&D. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) and quantum mechanics (QM) for chemical analysis, and contribute to the development of validated methods. The role also involves exploring non-targeted analysis and applying Life Cycle approaches using Quality by Design (QbD) principles. The individual will collaborate on ongoing studies and projects to enhance USP’s impact in pharmaceutical research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research & Method Development: Perform studies to evaluate key NMR parameters, develop high-quality analytical methods, and publish findings in journals, white papers, or application notes.

  • Spectral Analysis: Acquire high-resolution qNMR spectra and implement structural elucidation for chemical information, contributing to the development of spectral analysis models.

  • Collaboration: Work on expanding the digital NMR spectral database and provide technical guidance for qNMR product development projects.

  • Project Management: Manage project tasks, create schedules, and plan experiments while troubleshooting and resolving method and instrumentation issues.

  • Data Interpretation: Review scientific literature and interpret data to assist in landscaping qNMR applications across pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and food industries.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external experts to advance USP's mission in developing public standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • MSc/M. Pharm with 6-8 years of experience in NMR, qNMR, Quantum mechanics, and method development, or

    • Ph.D. with 1-3 years of experience in a related scientific discipline.

  • Skills:

    • Experience in NMR (qNMR and quantum mechanics modeling for qNMR analysis).

    • Hands-on experience with HPLC and other relevant technologies.

    • Expertise in performing research towards the development and validation of analytical methods.

    • Ability to work independently on rigorous scientific research and troubleshooting technical problems.

    • Strong collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Desired Preferences:

  • Capability to independently plan and conduct scientific research.

  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and GMP.

  • Ability to design and build guidelines for standardizing spectral libraries.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, especially for conveying complex scientific concepts to non-scientists.

Benefits:

USP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including company-paid time off, healthcare options, and retirement savings, providing peace of mind for employees' personal and financial well-being.
